"To read is to fly: it is to soar to a point of vantage which gives a view over wide terrains of history, human variety, ideas, shared experience
and the fruits of many inquiries."

- A C Grayling, Financial Times (in a review of A History of Reading by Alberto Manguel)-

The SMSH Library is open to students and faculty to checkout books before school, during lunch, after school, and during teacher scheduled class time! Hours of operation:  7:25am to 3:15 pm (late fees are 10 cents per day per book, copies are 10 cents for black/white, and 25 cents for color) Both books and computers are available to students for:  Searching the Card Catalog, Research Projects, Checking Grades and Homework Assignments, Utilizing Microsoft Programs, AR Testing, Reading Newpaper Articles, and Making Copies.

SMSH's library has over 9000 books and popular magazines available for checkouts.  The library subscribes to magazines that are sponsored by our local McDonalds, and the current issues are on display for in-house reading.  The library also houses one of the school's computer labs. There are 33 computers available for students, and teachers have access to the SmartBoard and Elmo document camera for whole class computer instruction. A video collection of approximately 300 videos is available to the faculty for instructional purposes. Classes are generally scheduled for 45 minute periods, so that as many as eight classes a day can be scheduled during the day for library visits.  Classes are scheduled for students to use subject related computer time, or so students may research topics using reference books or magazines.  Students are sometimes brought to the library to check out books for recreational reading or for class assignments.
